Ohio’s NHL team, the Columbus Blue Jackets, won another close game against the Washington Capitals to go up 2-0 in the series. The Blue Jackets will have two straight home games starting on Tuesday, Apr 17.

The Capitals were highly favored to win the series, despite their recent playoff troubles. The capitals finished first in the Metropolitan division while the Blue Jackets grabbed one of two wild card spots this past season. For this reason, the Capitals had home field advantage.

Game two once again went into overtime, but it took a wild Blue Jackets comeback to even get to that point.

The Capitals went up 3-1 early in the game thanks to Alex Ovechkin’s two goals in the first two periods. The Jackets would storm back in the second period with three goals from three different players.

The Capitals would tie the game and send it into overtime.

In the 12th minute of the 20 minute overtime period, Matt Calvert scored a controversial goal to give the Jackets the win and the 2-0 series lead heading back to Columbus. The goal was scored while a Blue Jackets player appeared to be off-sides, which would have negated the goal and continued the game. Upon review, the goal was upheld and the score went final, 5-4 Columbus.

Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky had one of the best games in Blue Jackets playoff history, as he recorded a whopping 54 saves in the game. Surprisingly, he wasn’t mentioned in the three stars of the game.

The three stars were Alex Ovechkin (3rd star, 2 goals) Cam Atkinson (2nd star, 2 goals) and Matt Calvert (1st star, game winning goal in overtime).

The Blue Jackets head home for game three with a 2-0 lead and a huge amount of confidence. They will have two games at home, giving them the chance to get the series sweep on their home ice.
