Khadija Kirksey stands in a pair of black ankle boots with metallic gold zippers, and her hands sit on her hips as she examines her outfit. She wears a pair of dark floral leggings with a cowl neck sweater that falls just past her hips.
“I chose a long shirt because I don’t like getting comments on my butt everyday,” Kirksey said. “It’s also really comfortable to have a slouchy top and tight bottoms. It makes a really interesting silhouette. Typically when I put my outfits together, I try to choose between pops of color and neutrality.”
Kirksey describes herself as an outgoing personality as the president of the LGBTQA on campus.
“I lean more towards the conservative colors mostly because I have a very outgoing personality and I don’t want my clothes to clash with my enthusiasm,” she says.
Finally, a silver necklace hangs around her neck and disappears into the cowl neck of her charcoal sweater. When asked about it, she smiles. “I’m a lesbian. The necklace is the silver lesbian pride symbol. It’s two women’s symbols interlocked.”
