Men’s basketball: WSU schedules OSU for upcoming season
Wright State Director of Athletics Bob Grant announced Sunday that the Wright State men’s basketball team scheduled a game in Columbus versus Ohio State University for the upcoming 2014-15 season.
A Wright State spokesperson said a date for the contest had not been set as of Sunday evening.
The Raiders last traveled to Columbus in 2011 when the Buckeyes downed the Raiders 73-42. There are three remaining Wright State players who played in the 2011 contest at OSU. Among them was then freshman guard Reggie Arceneaux who started scoring 11 and leading the team with 32 minutes played.
This will be Wright State’s fourth visit to OSU and second to the Schottenstein Center. OSU is 3-0 in the all-time series against WSU.
The last time Wright State defeated a Big Ten opponent was Dec. 30, 1999 when the Raiders stunned Tom Izzo’s No. 6-ranked Michigan State Spartans 53-49 in the Nutter Center.
The Raiders’ non-conference schedule is beginning to take shape and appears to be a bit more challenging than last year which featured two contests against Division III opponents.
Recently announced contests include George Mason who will visit the Nutter Center this year to start a two-year series with the Patriots and a two-game series against Belmont this year.
Belmont is joining the Horizon League as an associate member in men’s soccer and as part of the agreement, will play members of the Horizon League in other sports on a trial basis.
Also on the schedule is the continuation of series against in-state rivals Bowling Green and Miami. Miami has the longest running nonconference series with WSU as the two programs have played each other every year since 1999.
This will be the third-straight year BG and WSU have met.
