Further reports regarding the “medical emergency” that took place Tuesday on the third floor of Maple Hall, while not yet released, suggest that while a death was confirmed, the cause of death may not be suicide but a diabetic coma which then caused the student to pass away.

This conflicts initial reports to the Guardian from multiple sources within the Office of Residence Services that a suicide took place.

The Guardian will update on the details of the situation as information becomes available.

It is unfortunate that The Guardian has elected to publish a story about a student’s death that includes unsubstantiated information and speculation as to the cause. Out of respect for members of the family, and while we await formal verification from authorities, it would be most appropriate to print only that which has been confirmed.
