In response to the editorial in the January 24 issue of the Guardian, I think you were being a little hard on Student Government. SG goes widely unappreciated as it is, and your criticism of their parking study seemed needlessly harsh.

Yes, every student knows that parking is problematic here at Wright State. But in order for there to be action on the problem, the administration needs more than just the whining of the student body.

The organized and effectual study of the parking lots conducted by SG was necessary for the simple fact that it could get the ball rolling on improving the parking situation.

Don't yell at SG for publishing the results. If SG didn't publish them, students would continue to whine without knowing that their elected representatives are at least trying to do something about it. If SG didn't publish them, sooner or later someone would accuse SG of not doing anything.

The press release of the parking study data shows us that our representatives have heard our complaints and taken the first step towards correcting the problems.

You can't expect that SG could just go knock on some administrator's door and say, "Hey, parking here sucks, do something about it." That wouldn't get anything done.

The administration is more easily swayed with hard evidence. Conducting the study shows the professionalism, seriousness, and initiative of SG.

You accuse SG of not proposing solutions. Have you read the resolution? If not, here it is: http://www.wsusg.com/upload/Addressing_Parking_Problems_Resolution.doc. Starting in line 46, SG lists recommendations for solutions to the parking problem.

They can't do anything without the administration's approval. Right now, the only thing they can do is try to sell their ideas and be convincing enough to create action on the parking problem.

So lighten up and give SG some credit for hearing our complaints and acting on it to the extent of their ability. In the meantime, parking in lot 20 isn't nearly as bad as some make it out to be.

There are always spaces available, the shuttles are efficient, and it saves a lot of money on parking passes ($15 for three quarters). Instead of leaving an hour early for classes just to get a spot, leave half an hour early, park in lot 20, and take a comfortable shuttle ride. It will cut your stress in half.
