Wright State's Lake Campus received a generous donation from Jack Schenking, who presented the university a check for $100,000 in memory of his late wife, Kathy. The contribution will help the Lake Campus meet the $2 million challenge grant provided by the James F. Dicke Family.
The first Capital Campaign was launched in February 2006 in order to raise funds to renovate existing space and construct new science labs and a multipurpose center. "Our capital campaign has received tremendous support from our community and we are thrilled with the number of donors in our area," said Thomas Knapke, Assistant Dean for Development.
Due to the success of Schenking's business, the CW Service, Schenking wanted to give back to the community, and with his wife's teaching background, they were both pleased about donating toward education.
In recognition of the donation, the Lake Campus Office Information System area will be named in honor of Kathy Schenking.
"We are honored that Mr. Schenking has made this extraordinarily generous contribution to our campaign," said Knapke. "This donation will help the Lake Campus achieve its dream of a modern facility with state-of-the-art classrooms and cutting edge technology."
Building on accumulated state funds of $4 million, the foundation for the campaign was laid with a $2 million gift given by The James F. Dicke Family.
Their gift was a challenge gift, meaning that at least another $2 million had to be raised before the Dicke gift was vested. Celina Aluminum Precision Technology (CAPT) provided $250,000 for the science wing. The generous contribution from Jack Schenking brings the campaign total to $4,024,386.
"We are extremely pleased to have reached this milestone," said Knapke. "With Jack Schenking's donation, we can anticipate breaking ground late this year. This is a tremendous boost to the campaign."
The $8 million-plus project includes construction of a new science wing and multipurpose center, as well as 28,000 square feet of classroom renovation, incorporating the latest in multimedia technology and student services facilities. A donation from Reynolds and Reynolds will provide a new state-of-the-art computer center.
