Soon Student Health Services will no longer be receiving birth control at a discounted rate of $7, but at a rate of $15 to $35 a month. According to Wendy McGonigal, Director of Student Health Services here at Wright State, the price of birth control is rising nation wide due to conditions the Federal Deficit Act.

The act came about after companies that gave discounts on medications to places like universities and hospitals would not agree to give the government the same discounts.
Students were surprised by this information.

Jana Hughes, a freshman undecided major, said, "I am on birth control, but I don't get it through the school and I wouldn't if it went up that much. That's ridiculous."

Kelly Holder, a sophomore majoring in nursing said, "I already pay $35 a month for birth control and I think it's crazy."

"Do I think that some girls won't be able to afford it? You bet, but they won't be able to get it cheaper anywhere else," said McGonigal.

She also stated that the health center can still get birth control for $15 to $17 a month so girls are going to have to decide whether they want to be on birth control or not.

McGonigal's statement about the price of birth control is true; It can't be found cheaper anywhere else. The price of birth control ranges from $22.69 to $188.46 depending on the type, brand and pharmacy.
