Metro Nights promises to take Raiders from the Student Union to big city nightlife.

The two-night event will feature three dance clubs a night in the Student Union. The six dance clubs in total will each focus on a different kind of music.

Although the event is sponsored by University Activities Board (UAB), each club is sponsored by a different organization. These organizations are the University Center for International Education (UCIE), Rainbow Alliance, Latinos Involved in Further Education, WWSU and the Black Student Union.

"The cool thing is that so many different organizations are involved. This event is really a showcase of organizations. Each organization picks their own type of music and DJ for their club, with some input from UAB," said Mike George, UAB Marketing and PR chair and event chairperson.

"We're trying to simulate the urban experience. February is diversity month, and this will be diverse with the different types of clubs," said George.

According to George, the event will give students the opportunity to dance to music they may not have heard before. For example, one of the clubs will be featuring Indian and Reggae-tone music.

George said the inspiration for the event comes from a few different sources. At this year's Multicultural Halloween event, George was impressed with students' enthusiasm for Indian music. Also, he was inspired by the unique music at a dance club on a trip to Cleveland, and wanted to bring the variety of music back to WSU.

Two of the clubs will be held in the Apollo Room, and one in the Endeavor Room.

"I plan to attend Metro Nights because I'm big on WSU activities and I like to attend as many as possible," said Elton Lytle, a junior majoring in mass communication.

In addition, George was excited by the opportunity to present a late night event at WSU, and to hold a major event between Fall Fest and May Daze.

Besides the dance clubs, the event will also feature a small karaoke lounge and a comedy club. Non-alcoholic "mock-tails" will also be sold, with proceeds going to a charity to be named at a future date. Free food will be available.

The event is free for students, faculty, and staff with a Wright State ID. There is a $5 charge for guests. The event will be held on Thursday, Feb. 15 and Friday, Feb. 16 in the Student Union.

UAB is aided in producing this event by corporate sponsor Apple Computers. More information is available online at wright.edu/uab.
