WSU's Student Government conducted a parking study in the seventh week of the fall quarter to resolve parking problems expressed by students, faculty and staff.

Members of the student government took part in the study by observing and investigating parking lots during the time period between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The study revealed that while students generally have available parking options, occasionally parking availability is reduced to almost zero percent, and in rare cases, to exactly zero percent.
Resolution 2.02, entitled "Addressing Current Parking Problems at Wright State University," was sent to the appropriate administrative officials.

"So far, it has resulted in quite a bit of interest from faculty, staff, and the administration. We look forward to working with all parties to better parking at WSU," said Brad Turner, president of Student Government.

One of the noticeable results that came out of the study was the number of unused parking spaces in the yellow parking spots assigned for faculty and staff.

"At no point were there less than 50 spaces free. We believe that students should get those parking spaces back. But it is such a hard battle to decrease faculty spots - of course faculty members want accessible parking, too," said Amanda Thompson, Director of Student Affairs.

"The registrar assigned many classes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.," said Thompson.

"The Student Government asked the registrar to perhaps put a cap on classes that are scheduled at the same time, and instead schedule them evenly throughout the day, so that there isn't an overflow of students on campus all at the same time," Thompson added.

"The study successfully cleared the muddy waters and showed us the truth about parking problems at Wright State University," said Turner.

"It showed us that while parking really isn't broken, it most certainly could be improved," Turner added.
"I don't think the parking is that bad. I never had a hard time finding a parking spot," said Brooke Gober, a freshman majoring in biological sciences. "Obviously the earlier you come, the better chance you have of getting a good parking spot."
