Wright State traveled to Eastern Kentucky University on Tuesday to play a double header against the Colonels failing 4-1 in the first game and 13-5 later in the afternoon.
The Raiders were able to score only once in the sixth inning of the first game, eventually losing 4-1, but came out firing early in the second game. Wright State scored five runs in the first inning, starting with a three run homer for Amanda Cody, her fifth of the season. After that, though, Eastern Kentucky shut the Raiders out of all scoring efforts, ending the second game of the day, 13-5.
Following Tuesday's debacle, the Raiders returned to Wright State to play a home opening double header against UW-Green Bay.
Jessie Granger was able to keep the Phoenix team at bay until Michelle Logan was able to send Krissy Kesler home on a game-winning single in the eighth, finishing the effort 1-0. This was Wright State's second win of the season and the first victory at home.
Later in the afternoon, Wright State was also able to beat UW- Green Bay in the second half of the double header with a score of 5-4.
The Raiders opened up a short-lived 1-0 lead in the second. The Phoenix responded by scoring two in the third which was immediately answered at the bottom of the inning with a three run series, giving Wright State a 4-2 advantage.
Though UW-Green Bay scored one run in each of the next two innings, tying the game in the fifth, Wright State was able to score the decisive run in the seventh.
After Bridget Henry was able to get on base with a single, and Jacqueline Macy made a sacrifice play to send Henry to second, a Phoenix wild pitch resulted in Henry making it to third.
One more wild pitch was all it took for Henry to cross home plate, earning Wright State the winning run and their second victory of the day.
Sunday, however, proved to be another story for the Raiders as they faced UW- Green Bay again at the WSU softball field losing the game 3-0 and ending the weekend series 2-1.
The Raiders, now 3-25 overall and 3-3 in Horizon League play, will travel to Butler to face the Bulldogs in a three game series over the weekend. As Wright State faces the last ranked Horizon League Bulldogs, they can look forward to recovering further from what was a dismal season opening string of losses.
