WSU's board of trustees approved awarding United Nations ambassador Tony Hall an honorary degree.
The award will be presented to Hall at commencement on June 10.
Hall is a Dayton native. He was the founding member of the House Select Committee on Hunger and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998, 1999 and 2001.
He has also done numerous service projects for the Miami Valley including the creation of the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park and securing federal funding for Riverscape.
Hall is also known for helping gain funding for the Dayton Dragons baseball stadium, Dayton International Airport and the National Composite Center.
James Sayer, the WSU faculty president, said that Hall "exactly exemplifies" the attributes worthy of an honorary degree.
Hall will be receiving an honorary doctor of humane letters degree. Hall is planning to attend the ceremony, said WSU President Kim Goldenberg.
